Landmark is abolishing claim upkeep

Landmark landowners who are weary of mining copper to keep their claims will soon earn a reprieve. While today’s hotfix disables the ability to pay using Station Cash, next week’s patch will remove copper as the upkeep currency. In fact, players will no longer have to pay upkeep at all! Instead, players will maintain their land ownership simply by logging in. The system is simple: Players will have an upkeep timer that will reset every time they log into the game. As long as a player logs in before the timer expires, his or her claims are safe.

How long is this timer? That part’s not quite as simple. Each player has a base timer (seven days for new players, and the personal maximum upkeep pre-pay length for current players) that grows by one day for every two days of logging in. That means that not only does the timer reset each time a player logs in, but it also increases to give a longer buffer.

Once the change is live, players can also expect a refund in copper of all pre-paid upkeep balance. Come April, those who purchased copper using Station Cash in order to pay for upkeep but don’t want a mountain of the resource will be able to get different resources when reimbursed after the character wipe.

racccoon The problem lies in that no one has seen the full game yet. Just building is not the whole game. They have said what the game vision is. I suggest you find out.

Carthoris Landmark is no where near the same type of game as any of those games. This is not a typical MMOG with NPCs giving quests requiring a town. It seems quite clear in the description that you still have to log in to keep your claim.

Isn’t this one of the things that people said heralded the end of SWG? I remember something on the podcast a year ago or so about how easing claim upkeep just led to huge swaths of ghost-towns and made the game significantly worse overall, even though it was welcomed at the time.

c71clark Nimway You did loose your work, since it was a total mess trying to re-fit the template back onto a claim, never worked to have it reclaimed exactly right and mine is build into the landscape. I spent more time trying to retro-fit my template after a while than I felt like logging in and doing something new. If I extended my claim’s structure it just ment more time retro-fitting it.

Fantastic change. I stopped playing as it got so frustrating loosing my claim and having to retro-fit what I was building. Not everyone can afford regular play time after all and then wants to go mine copper when they have time …

I come to a conclusion this game is a waste of time and has no real point to it, its a building and a game that says..”look at my achievements” of days, mths, etc work!
These games really start to tire me as I already did my time building in Minecraft, I’ll allow that to eat away a little more time through the boring days now,
I do not see much point after many attempts and playing this game trying to get into it, as it turns out from those exhaustive times this game as it is has absolutely no point to it existence but wasting time.

Did someone from DGC read my diary? This is a great change and it honestly was one of the things that kept me from investing a lot of time building.
