The Daily Grind: Have you tried Heroes of the Storm?

170

So, Heroes of the Storm launched this week. And Infinite Crisis called it quits. That’s an interesting and slightly regrettable one-two punch from my perspective, but I suspect I’m in the minority there. Regardless, Blizzard’s latest game is everywhere, from television commercials (people still watch television?) to honest trailers to hard drives the world over.

What about you, MOP readers and MOBA fans? Have you tried HotS? If so, did you like it?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Played several matches of it. Pretty fun at times. Not playing it now, but not against it. What I view as the potential of ‘multiplayer online battle arena’ won’t be fulfilled yet and HOTS is only part of the progress of the genre towards it.

I still prefer LoL’s design, in a lot of ways, but as a player I absolutely love love love that HotS games only last 15-20 minutes.

I’m not into the MOBa genre, but even if I was, I would rather stick to the best out there: LOL, DOTA2, SMITE.

Estranged Armsbend i only spent money on dire wolf so far, rest earned by playing tho it wasnt too hard with having free rotations leveling to 5th, if i didnt spent 20k on master skins for Muradin and Rehgar i would be playing Johanna now :D  But im getting there, like 7k gold to go :)

I love it. As someone who just couldn’t get into LoL due to the constant hate mongering and refusal of anyone to actually offer constructive advice, this game is great. Sure there is still a good deal of toxic elitists playing, but if you just tell them to piss off and offer advice instead, it generally works out. I’m actually enjoying it a lot know as I’ve kind of learned the ins and outs of how to effectively play with my team. I love the heroes as they actually have significance to me, having playing all the Blizzard games. It means more to play as Thrall than some random LoL character who has no backstory. I think overall its a great step in the right direction for MOBAs, and people who got a bad taste in their mouth from DOTA/LoL should certainly give it a try!

Vexia I can’t agree more. I’m not a MOBA player: I tried DOTA 2, and really enjoyed it (even the meta), but quickly discovered that you need to DEVOTE yourself to it in order to play with others at all. HotS is more casual-friendly, letting me grab a few friends and play a match here and there (even against AI if we’re not feeling particularly competitive that day), instead of having to laser focus and spend hours reading about builds and options.

It’s a slightly new take on MOBAs, and I like it. But it’s still a MOBA, so it’s never going to be my personal focus.
