Trion addresses Defiance players’ requests for more content

Oh, thanks for the promise to eventually answer in the future.

The newest set of answers from the Defiance developers to player questions is available now. The bad news (always start with the bad news) is that several of those answers come down to “we’ll consider it.” The good news is that those answers cover a lot of ground just the same. Case in point: The team is aware that it provides no rewards for players on the test server, but with upcoming releases that require a larger test, there are plans to reward those who take part in some fashion.

Backwards compatibility for the Xbox One is also being sought out, although there’s no word on whether or not that will happen. There are currently no plans to have the Omec appear in-game, although Omec-inspired armor is currently on the table as a possibility. Take a look at all of the answers on the official site.

Nordavind That’s what I like about Defiance, too. There’s no hassle, the loot’s RNG, and you have this massive map which every so often erupts with sometimes huge, anything goes group content. It’s simply a great deal of fun to make my way around and shoot stuff, and on the side I also get to play a character like the ones seen in the show!
“The arkfal events are great fun, just random strangers bunching up and doing their part.”
I really enjoy seeing everyone turn up in number at event locations, bail out of their runners,, and get right into the organised chaos that often follows. It’s a fantastic sight, the like minded co-operation and fun, without the clutter that some other games overlay.

mysecretid Sorenthaz  Nah I appreciate the info because I’d prefer a fellow MOPer’s opinion over some random Youtuber or w/e.  And I don’t know if it’s even been getting frequently updated or what.  So thanks for that.  I’ll probably look up some videos of it and figure out if I want to re-DL Defiance or give Firefall a try.
Or just not worry about either and stick to other stuff.  Lol.

I came into Firefall long after the sociopath in charge had been fired, and all the drama had died down.
I occasionally hear long-time players grumbling in chat about how feature X should’ve been left in, or similar, but I was never there to see those features, so their absence now means nothing to me, y’know?
It’s free-to-play with a cash shop. Buying a pseudo-sub will get you bonus cash and such, but I don’t find the pseudo-sub to be necessary or an “I win” button,
I subbed once, and then let it go. It’s good if you’re really into Firefall, I suppose, but I only play intermittently, when I want some run-and-gun casual play.
You play one character in the game, and your “class” is the battlesuit you wear, called a “frame”.
Different frames = different classes and powers. You get your starting frame for free, but can acquire others.
The cash shop sells “advanced frames” — they’re different, and have some cool power options, but I honestly don’t see them as pay-to-win, just different options.
You don’t need a paid frame to hold your own.
Downsides?
The game’s mobs can be crazy swarmy at times (and they respawn fast). The gun-toting npcs often seem to hit accurately at ridiculous ranges — use your jetpack; keep moving; break line of sight; swear at your monitor — all these things help. :-)

Anyway, not trying to “sell” you on Firefall here, pal. Just saying that this is where I went for fun pew-pew when the Defiance game slipped into its current development coma, and I got tired of waiting for it to wake up.

Hope you find something fun — that’s all.

Cheers,

mysecretid Sorenthaz  Hasn’t that had a lot of issues since its shaky launch?

May I recommend Firefall? It’s where I went to play after the Defiance game stopped putting out actual story and mission content on any sort of schedule.

It’s a similar sort of future-Earth “wahooo!” “shootin’ stuff” game as Defiance was at its best — but it also has jetpacks and glider flight!

Only my opinions, of course. Ignore them at your leisure. :-)

CrowingOne deekay_zero jonny_sage Yeah, problem with a social hub is that it took them almost two years to get a working chat system into the game.  By the time they managed it the game was already on life support with virtually no player base.
They failed pretty hard with the game.  Which is is too bad because I was one of it’s biggest fans for a very long time.

When the answer to (multiples) calls for more content in a MMO all sum up to : “will would like to do it, we will/might look into that”, one knows it’s time to move on.

It’s pretty obvious that the Defiance team is just a skeleton team still.  That probably became even moreso the case when Trick Dempsey jumped ship (or was booted? *shrug*) since he was the main face behind the dev team.

Hell I bet Trove has a bigger team at this point.

I skimmed some of it the other day, actually. Most of it can be boiled down to, “We don’t have the budget to do anything right now, but won’t rule it out.” from what I could tell. Which isn’t that surprising given whats happened to the game since its pretty disastrous launch.
For the Xbone specific question, honestly, I can’t see them spending the time/effort right now unless the process is insanely easy. And given my very scarce knowledge of software emulation like Xbone will use, I don’t think they’ll see enough value in spending the time. Defiance never had the popularity to garner a strong following that would play it on Xbone, looks rough as hell compared to its competition (Warframe and Defiance, to name a few), and honestly, if they’re going to spend the effort to do that they may as well just release proper Xbone/PS4 versions. But I can’t see that happening without them making a big investment/push to make Defiance relevant again. And that’s beyond doubtful : /

I started playing this after the last article you guys had on this game. LOVING IT!

There are some lag issues, and some tad intrusive “BUY STUFF!” things, but other than that this is a game type I’ve been looking for. The arkfal events are great fun, just random strangers bunching up and doing their part.
