BioWare bangs the SWTOR story drum in new teaser vid

BioWare has published a brief Star Wars: The Old Republic video featuring lead writer Charles Boyd. He says that the Knights of Fallen Empire expansion gave the game’s writers a chance to approach the player’s story involvement in “a whole new way,” though he doesn’t give any specifics. He does say that the expansion launch will feature lots of new story content, followed by new chapters coming out “much more quickly than we ever have before and for a much longer time than we ever have before.”

You can view the video after the break.

Housing is not core gameplay.  It’s not fresh mechanics and it’s not a new core mechanic feature.  Yes they add stuff but they aren’t keeping the core game fresh.
I compare it to WoW because SWTOR is actually quite large.  It’s not “20 times smalle”  it’s only about 1/5th the size of WoW now. If you actually counted free players and cash in flow it’s even closer than that.

The metrics disagree with you. SWTOR players played for more time on average than any MMO ever.  Nothing “wore off”.  People still loved it.  They just realized that EA was abandoning it right away.  Patches weren’t coming out.  Fixes weren’t flowing in.  New content was going to be a year away.

I don’t think my “jaw will be on the floor”.

But I look forward to playing it.

I liked this game and all, but I always ran into various technical issues with the client. After a while of trying to work around them it all just got too tiresome and I gave up. I have tried the game at launch and after every expansion, and the same crap repeats itself every time. I will probably try again with this expansion since, with all the on-rails stuff it has, I find it a cool game if it worked without problems.

I am about 5,000% more excited by the four leaked PTS screenshots of random features that were posted on reddit yesterday than I am about any of this bullshit.

Ekphrasis Bannex19 I’m not sure who this “we” is but people are already throwing money at the game. Sometimes peoples”we” is really just ” I” and the game just isn’t for you. Those 15 one dollar bills you have rolled into a “wad” probably don’t stand up very well to the 100+ million the game made last year doing what ” we ” don’t seem to like.

Their target audience is pretty clearly people who like what they have and want more of it. That’s what this new expansion is going to be.

I was in SWTOR from the start and have played almost every MMO out there but keep coming back to this game. I love the story and every time they add to it I sub back up and give it another go. If they keep the story coming I will play it. It is still a fun game.

I’m excited for this xpac!  Haven’t been in a while, but this one has me going.  I took a few vacation days off just like when the game launched.

Peregrine_Falcon You’re perfectly fine to subscribe to SWTOR and criticise them unceremoniously, but just so you know it’s perfectly fine for myself and others to consider you as a hypocrite.

This game going back to its roots will not give BW/EA the type of numbers they want. This feels more like a last-ditch effort. I am not a SWTOR hater. I was a subscriber for almost the entire time it has been out until they announced this expansion a few months ago. I am not saying I enjoyed what was before this. I am not saying this story will not be awesome. I am simply saying that I did not see a reason based on what they announced to continue to dump money into this game. The story will probably be really cool for 2 weeks. What then? Run my 12-16 other alts through it? Another few months later, what then? Just not enough content to make someone stick around. This cycle kind of started with Revan and that was abysmal and not a great 2-3 months.
