“You know, I think I might be the only person ever who had a good experience being ganked in EVE,” he said sheepishly. Turns out that years back when he was a newbie in the game with only a few weeks of play under his belt, he and his sad little mining ship wandered into conflict territory and were promptly ganked by another player. As my husband was cursing his bad luck and considering whether it was worth it to start over or just quit, the ganker messaged him and asked him what the heck he was doing out there in a noob mining ship. When my husband explained he really had no idea and was just trying to get ore, the ganker apologized, told him where to mine in safety, and wired him the full value of the destroyed ship (and then some).
Now, I know that there are plenty of bad sorts out there who do a good deed now and then to absolve themselves of their many guilty pleasures, but there are plenty of others who just genuinely want a fair fight and definitely don’t want to turn newbies off from the game — and clearly, my husband’s enemy-turned-friend fell into the latter group. So today I ask you — has that ever happened to you? What’s the friendliest PvP encounter you’ve ever had?
