Liveblogging the Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE XXXVI

'Blue mage confirmed!' announces someone about any announcement ever.
For those who’ve somehow missed it, Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida regularly does live letters for the community. We don’t usually liveblog them because, well, most of them take place at a time of day many people are aware of only by rumors. But this time the letter is in English and happening right now, so we’re going to go ahead and liveblog it for your viewing pleasure.

We’ve included an embed past the break, but if you can’t watch the video or would prefer not to, worry not; we’ll be updating you on the progress of the letter right in the comments. This is the first time we’ve done the liveblog with the new comment system, so we’re eager to put it through its paces. What things will be revealed? (Stuff related to Stormblood. We all know it.)

Logged back in recently and my first impressions were that the game is suffering from development bloat. There’s such a thing as too much change, too much content.

Change for change sake isn’t good. That’s not what is going on in this case. And as for the amount of content, you won’t find the people who play it on a regular basis complaining about it.

The only downside is that it SUCKS for people who aren’t keeping up. I still have so much MSQ content to get through before Stormblood comes out, lol. On top of all the level 50 and 60 endgame content that I still haven’t unlocked.

well, now you have a jump potion coming with 4.0. but the question still remains, if you are actively choosing not to “keep up” (for whatever reason), it isn’t the game’s fault that they kick out a substantial amount of content on a regular basis.

Of course, it’s good that they do that. It just sucks when you consider the fact that you have to play through ALL of the Main Story Quests. That’s FFXIV’s biggest downside is that the MSQs require you to sit at level 50/60 content for an extra lengthy period of time in order to go through the 2.x/3.x patch content.

and they’re addressing that very issue…

So I read in the comment above. :)

I guess I should have changed it to “that’s been FFXIV’s biggest downside”. Still might be if the jump thing isn’t provided for free to anyone who purchases Stormblood.

I like the idea of gauges, but holy mother they are distracting… Mah immersion!

ehh, as a longtime wow vet theyre handy in the sense that in the head of a raid nobody wants to eyeball the buff bar constantly. Plus theyre UI elements and therefore technically turn-offable.

Less distracting than having to watch a small buff icon that blends in to the environment and takes all of your attention because it’s hard to see.

Can’t see a downside to this change.

this. I cant even fucking play monk as is because I cant watch my positioning and my buff bar at the same time easily.
