LOTRO tests Mordor’s improved character models and allegiance system

12
The third public preview test of Lord of the Rings Online: Mordor arrived yesterday, further expanding the beta of the upcoming expansion. New this time around is the first glimpse of the new human avatar visual updates, the allegiance system (albeit without many of the quests and rewards), and a few tweaks to the High Elves’ hairstyle. They’re vain, get over it.

“Early elements of the avatar update can be seen in this build on human models,” the devs said. “You will note a toggle in the character generation UI that allows you to see the original or updated appearance for each option.”

As with all of Mordor’s tests so far, the Bullroarer server is open to anyone who wants to create a copy of their characters and give the new content a whirl.

This is a wonderful change, I am currently updating the client and can’t wait to see the changes.

If this fixes the way they made male elves stand sometime back, I’ll be happy. Seriously, who looked at that rigid stance and thought, “Yep, that communicates the grace of the elves.”?

video was a waste of my time. the biggest crap thing about lotro characters are their horrible animations, especially the female running animations.

Waste of YOUR time? Pardon? I guess people shouldn’t bother wasting their own time putting videos together so people can get a free preview. It’s not like you actually went ahead and wasted a few hours and bandwidth downloading the bullroarer client so you can see this stuff your own self hmmm?

ALSO Animations are also being updated as well last I checked. I guess stay tuned.

Thx a bunch. It’s an improvement, albeit a small one but I love they included old/flawed character appearances. Not all heroes have to be avatars of beauty!

thanks! I like the updates. Only thing I never understood was why are human faces so long? I think they should do some less angular options, tbh. Overall though, I like what I’m seeing.

It’s interesting — they’re apparently taking EQ2’s approach to doing character updates. According to the patch notes you can toggle between original and updated appearance during character creation and also toggle display of it in the game’s graphics options.

It’s smart in that you can then see things the way you prefer. But at the same time, you’re unable to guarantee that others will see you the way you like best for yourself.

From the patch notes, I wasn’t entirely sure if they’re going to leave the toggle in or if it’s there just for testing so people can swap back and forth and verify the details from their existing model made it to the new one.

From what SSG have said in their livestreams, they intend to keep the toggle in for folks who want to keep their existing model.
