DC Universe Online lays out future plans, teases skill point respec UI

Look up there, in the sky! Is it a producer’s letter for DC Universe Online? Is it a state of the game post? Nay, it’s both!

Last month’s large-scale stat revamp changed the game from the top to bottom, and now that the dust has settled somewhat, the team said that it is “thrilled” with the response to the changes. It also laid out the plans for what it will be doing in the game short, medium and long term, such as nerfing low-level mobs, updating the game’s gear and progression systems, and providing other avenues for players to earn skill points.

In a tantalizing teaser, the letter also showed a picture of what looks like a faster skill point adjustment UI that gives players the ability to respec much easier than before.

Massively OP’s Eliot recently concluded a tour of duty in DCUO and was pretty disappointed in what he discovered.

i wish this game could get a big modern overhaul… such an interesting concept but damn if it isn’t old and dated feeling

Part of the problem is the console aspect, they really are limited to the whole controller issue. That alone limits system overhauls and animation overhauls.

I don’t know if I can blame the jank animation quality and how everything feels disconnected and floaty on a controller.

Alot of people not happy with that revamp they did. The revamp itself wasn’t the problem it was how the buffed up the mobs so much now that you can die really easy when facing any mob. Sounds like they need to go back and tweak the mobs down a bit.

And of course, the devs are totally on a different page when it comes to the stat revamp. The first sentence is this:

“The Stats Revamp is live, and we are incredibly thrilled with the response thus far. ”

2 different worlds.

They do need to improve the character creator.

Why hasn’t Marvel tried to make an MMORPG?

They did. Developed by Cryptic, published by Microsoft. Then World of Warcraft’s explosive growth kicked the legs out from under Asheron’s Call. Microsoft decided to bail out on MMOs (and AAA Windows game development) entirely, and flipped AC’s publishing rights back to Turbine. That spooked Marvel into bailing out on Cryptic, who salvaged the project as Champions Online with Atari as the publisher.
