ZeniMax is gearing up for a big PvP showdown in The Elder Scrolls Online next week with what it’s dubbed the Midyear Mayhem PvP Event. As it was last year, the idea to push players into the ongoing Cyrodiil battlefield from July 26th to August 6th with the promise of extra experience and sweet, sweet loot.

“To ensure you’re able to take the field, we are opening up two additional 7-day CP Alliance War campaigns during the event, and have additional ones ready to go if needed,” says ZeniMax. Players who tackle all of the seven event achieves will be picking up a laurel wreath headpiece, and everyone will see special “boon boxes” dropped and stuffed full with siege items, housing items, motif pages, consumables, reagents, and even Akaviri-themed goodies. Plus, legendary-quality rings and necklaces are available for purchase by PvP players too.

Incentive enough for you to go out and smash other players in the capital? Or are you just waiting patiently for Wolfhunter?

That should be fun. I have a couple of classes I haven’t really tried in PvP yet.

Speaking as one of the game’s first pvp beta testers, who came in 3rd for the first pvp beta weekend, and played on and off for the past 4+ years doing nothing but pvp, it’s trash. It had a great foundation that was never built upon, only allowed to rust away into what’s now barely even large enough to call a pvp population. Years of no content, dozens of several years old bugs, ungodly amounts of never fixed lag, etc. has chased away a segment of their community they obviously didn’t want.

Pvp in this game is a terrible joke. I’m not sure how the devs feel good about it at all.

Between the lag, animation canceling, and horrendous balance, no thanks.

Wife and I just started playing this again after about 2 years and MY GOD, what an improvement! We are happy to find an MMO to enjoy, at least for a while.

It’s the only time I ever bother with PvP, even then I might not bother this year, I’ll just avoid builds that use the skills locked behind PvP.

Incentives to engage in PvP other than with people I know who can be chill and cool about it… there is only one that is enough. Being bored enough, and having friends with a strange itch to go off and do that.

IF PvP were better balanced, and treated as a matter in which honor was important, that might be a different matter. Against what amounts to a foe with no effective end, and in a situation where there is usually very foul language and action… no, there is simply no other incentive great enough.

I can deal with those who can not or will not act with dignity in real life, but I see no reason to engage in a game with such an experience under any normal circumstance. Without the ability to avoid such behavior, PvP will remain a very rare thing for me. I’ll gladly engage those who can be decent, with all the fun that entails. The trend, however, is that people will be asshats. I don’t really like hanging around asshats, so I choose something else for my enjoyment.
