Rend is hitting Early Access today

among the fields of gold

It’s time to try a different sort of survival sandbox with the launch of Rend’s Early Access today. You can pick up the game’s current version right now for $30 on Steam, a game which you may have noticed we continually give out high praise for whenever we get our hands on it. Naturally, there’s a trailer just below along with some new screenshots, so everyone gets to enjoy a look at the title.

For those who have missed it, Rend is a survival sandbox (as mentioned) with a bit of a twist. Players are automatically signed on for one of three factions in the game, and the ultimate goal is to be the strongest faction over time. There are limited windows for attacking the main base, but there are also large-scale attacks that coincide with those windows of vulnerability. Check out the trailer just below if you want a glance at the game in action. Or just go ahead and buy your way into early access now.

The art team deserves a raise or two. Game is gorgeous.

So this is a pigtail optional game? o.O

Played for about an hour today. Fun and intuitive. I’ll jump in more. Promising.

Looks intriguing, but I’m not sure I want to play another survival game. I’m just so ‘meh’ on the genre.

so if players are automatically assigned to a faction, rip playing with friends?

I’m unsure what Eliot means with that phrasing.
Did something change?
As of 2 days ago, you still picked your faction yourself.

AFAIK you choose your faction, it did not get auto-selected for me.

From the bit of streaming I saw, you can choose your faction but they fill up fast (something like 20 people per faction per server?) and you can’t choose to join a faction that’s already full on the server.

To be clear only 20 players per faction can be online at one time but a faction can have more then 20 members.

Its a shame this engine wasnt used to make an actual mmorpg.

Dont really care for the whole PvPvS games (player vs player vs survival)

Looks gorgeous and I adore the art style and what I’ve glimpsed of the lore, if not for my aversion to that sort of PvP I’d be all over it. But the faction PvP seems so central to the concept that I don’t know if PvE servers, with the factions competing to see which one could do best while fighting off only the NPC enemies, would ever work?

Closed beta was fun, but I definitely needed some people to play with. Felt pretty alone and I think this is a game I’d love to roam around with some friends in.

played a little on cb , looks nice, have something strange(like camera, chat…)
but the worse part is the server system, i hate that and avoid any other game with it.
