Leaderboard: Are you buying a BlizzCon virtual ticket this year, and is WoW Classic the reason?

Oof, some people really, really do not like jokes about BlizzCon, as I found out Sunday when my throwaway headline about paying Blizzard 50 bucks to let us alpha test our childhoods provoked some readers to flip out in the comments and social media. I hear you, folks. You’re OK with paying to alpha test nostalgia – we’re just haggling over the price, as the old saying goes.

I thought the topic would make for an interesting poll. Are you buying a BlizzCon virtual ticket this year, and if so, is it because of the swag, the panels, or WoW Classic specifically? How many core MMO fans are buying a ticket just to demo vanilla? Let’s find out.

Are you buying a BlizzCon virtual ticket this year, and why?

  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... buy a virtual ticket chiefly because of the virtual swag. (3%, 8 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... buy a virtual ticket chiefly to watch the panels in my pajamas. (10%, 29 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... buy a virtual ticket chiefly to demo WoW Classic. (8%, 24 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... skip the virtual ticket because of wimpy swag this year. (6%, 16 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... skip the virtual ticket because of WoW Classic or the associated price hike. (2%, 5 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... skip the virtual ticket because of dwindling interest. (10%, 30 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... skip the virtual ticket because it's too expensive. (17%, 48 Votes)
  • I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will... skip the virtual ticket but still want to demo WoW Classic when it's available. (18%, 51 Votes)
  • I am not typically a WoW or Blizzard fan but will... buy a virtual ticket chiefly to demo WoW Classic. (1%, 4 Votes)
  • BlizzCon who? I am above this stuff. I am so much fun at parties! (6%, 17 Votes)
  • I am a lucky person going to BlizzCon in person, so this is moot for me. (2%, 6 Votes)
  • Something else (tell us in the comments!) (3%, 10 Votes)
  • No response / view tally / night elf butts. (14%, 39 Votes)

I prefer Blood Elf fembutts.

Anyhow, I used to play years ago, but the game and I drifted our separate ways and there’s nothing (short of Sylvanas breaking off into a third playable faction and allowing all races to party together), that would draw me back. And seeing as those things are antithetical to Blizzard’s vision, I seem to have self-installed a great deterrent from getting sucked back in again!

I still love the art though, and buy the artbooks even though my player account remains mothballed. I don’t hate the game, it just isn’t for me any longer.

It’s my love of the game that keeps me away. I am trying to get a few things accomplished and just can’t get sucked in.

Not sure why there isn’t an ‘all of the above’.

Sent in PTO requests for Blizzcon weekend at my workplace back in August, planning to just enjoy the days watching the content and having a chill weekend. Virtual goodies are also fun to grab since I dab in most of Blizzard’s game roster, and definitely going to be checking out the WoW Classic demo.

So I’m not really buying the ticket just for the sake of WoW Classic, but more for all of the above reasons.

Moolarurka .

No , I will probably play on the classic servers once they are released if none of the games now in development like Crowfall , Camelot Unchained etc are still unreleased or fail to impress .

I dont understand what this is all about.
What was the regular price for a virtual ticket last year?
Was it $30? 40? 50?
Maybe people aren’t paying anything extra at all for this test compared to previous years and they are just able to “live-test” Classic as a bonus.
Seriously. How much was it last year?
I suspect that despite the naysayers there will be a huge bump in virtual tickets sold

$40 was the regular ticket price for the past however many years (10+?). Usually includes vanity items for every game.

$50 is the new price. Goodies for WoW this year are lackluster compared to previous years – faction-based capes + banners instead of a pet/mount. Items that arguably should be in the game normally. WoW Classic demo is so far the big new addition to the ticket though I think they said they were also spicing up aspects of the livestreams/VODs.

Maybe there’s also going to be something extra special awesome in the virtual ticket for Diablo, who knows.

I am interested in Classic, but that alone does not justify the price tag. Skipping.

No, I’d rather spend the money on sub time or SP games to play while I wait for all the news to be posted here.

$50 is way too much for something that will be covered for FREE by many websites/blogs. As for testing WoW Classic – not interested, I already played that game long time ago and if I wanted to play more – I can just play it on private servers.

I am a WoW or Blizzard fan who will… skip the virtual ticket because this is 2018 and this isn’t some super secret blood sacrifice ritual so second-by-second information will be news blasted everywhere and I don’t care about WOW Classic.

While i plan to play WoW Classic, i am only slightly considering getting a ticket to watch the Diablo “What’s New” panel. While i would love to see it love, it’s also something i can wait an extra hour or two for the info dump on other sites.
