Warframe just launched episode one of The Wolf of Saturn Six – on ALL the platforms

You know that annoying thing where MMOs get a content update on PC, but then the console launch is like a month later, but by that point everyone’s already done all the good stuff and it’s not even big news? That’s not what this story is about. This story is about how Warframe is doing exactly the opposite. Its latest content is rolling out to Steam/PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch all at the same time. Wild times. In fact, Switch players are also getting caught up a bit more with some Fortuna content.

“Canadian developer and publisher Digital Extremes signals today the beginning of Warframe’s Nightwave, a new ongoing radio broadcast built on fresh, immediate story-infused gameplay, available today. With Nightwave, players tuning into their Orbiter Scanners can instantly embark on new challenges, collect exclusive rewards, gear, cosmetics and more. […] Tenno listening to Nightwave will experience the rebellious, smoky smooth allure of host Nora Night, the mysterious character whose rogue radio transmissions kick off the first series today with episode one of The Wolf of Saturn Six. Players will discover new enemies and backstory and earn unique rewards to upgrade their Arsenal as they rise through the Reward Tiers.”

Naturally, there are gobs of new rewards for people who ignore all the other shiny new games out right now and play Warframe instead, including cosmetics, forma bundles, and catalysts.

And don’t forget that tickets for this year’s Tennocon are going on sale tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST!

Spent some time with this on the weekend. My thoughts about it before playing unfortunately correct. Playing it, the new vibe is awesome, but the pressure to play, that’s never been what Warframe is about to me.

Warframe was always there when i felt it, i mean no other game had that gift. Log in for daily; urge hits play; doesn’t no biggie maybe tomorrow, and then at times i go hard for monhts on it.

This clock to get chit done, i’m not a work, this is a game lol, which now totally feels like devout or go away as there is no point.

Not to sound like a qq, only honest how it feels or changed the game. It’s a huge honey do list, and i got no honey even and i couldn’t keep up. teehee

Why a replacement is all i think?

Why replace alerts at all, this would have been a KICK ASS addition, and buff up the alerts. Time to play go nightwave, limited time go alerts. Options are always good! It lost the casual friendly option to me, and right now i need hard core casual friiendly. Shakes fist at SWG:L.

Looking at it is one thing, playing it completly differnt.

I like!, I like! like it a lot! Nice change DE!

Looked this over some more.

This tbh and it’s honest criticism as i’m in the “casual” only atm, daily log in that’s it. Looking at what you need to do this isn’t that casual friendly looking. (I COULD BE WRONG)

Anyone with tons of time to throw at the game this isn’t a problem, but someone like myself whom may get a Warframe urge out of the blue until my SWG:L addiction calms down at least, well this feels more like what’s the point?

It’s making me do a ton of stuff i’ve already done? At least before a casual limited time player had a chance, you know; RNG lets roll the dice on an Alert.

This seems like a checklist, to do list, i dunno or i do, like to get all those things i wont have enough time to throw at this game so why bother even daily logging anymore?

It hits me like a mountain of stuff i need to do (which uninspiringly enough is the same stuff i’ve already done before) all to grind cred to eventually or hopefully buy something by some unexpected expiry date? So again it feels like what’s the point as I’m never going to get it all done in time?

You know me, you know i fully support DE at every turn, but this has left me bewildered a little, it seemed to come out of nowhere and something to me like no one was asking for?

I love the vibe of it, just i dunno i’m not a developer it feels like an unnecessary change when all that needed to be done was to overhaul/ramp up/beef up/ the alert system. No i dunno you feel like pressure to play? as in like you better play now or this is gone forever, i dunno, and at some unmentioned end?

(I COULD BE WRONG) Maybe it’s new, and i atm really don’t want to invest any SWG game time anywhere else but SWG. lol

I’ll preface with the fact that i’m so into SWG:L that nothing is appealing to me outside that game world atm. I’m retaining interest in Warframe and Fallout 76 though.

I updated, logged in, remember every second i’m in there is being taken away from my limited game time and i want to devote that all to SWG.

So obv i didn’t dig in but first impression is, it looks so cool, i like it, It’s got a great vibe to it for sure. However on first impression it looks super grindy and similar to how calpheon simaris works right? That’s not being negative i love grinding!

I knew it was coming soon but wasn’t expecting it quite so hot on the heels of the dev workshop! Having a couple of months without much content on the PC makes more sense now we know they were holding Nightwave for a simultaneous release across all platforms.

My general thoughts so far, pros:

* Nora’s voice is dreamy, I could listen to her all night long ~fans self~

* Some great rewards – to my knowledge this is the first time you can earn a Warframe inventory slot in game outside the Sacrifice quest, and the first time you can earn weapon inventory slots in game outside the anniversary missions, and both are at relatively low reward tiers. Also the first ever Umbral Forma, a top-tier arcane, brand new weapon mods, 40k Kuva, and a host of brand new cosmetic rewards including sigils, glyphs, emblems, emotes, decorations, a K-Drive scrawl, a syandana, weapon skins, and an armour set.

* No more RNG for Aura mods and cosmetic helmets! I’ve been playing for 2 years but still spotted one Aura (Enemy Radar) which I hadn’t got. Plus it’ll be easier to stock up on Orokin Catalysts and Reactors, which turned up very rarely in the Alert rotation.

* Incentive to check out a wide variety of activities, many of which I’d not touched in ages – this first week includes Invasions, Sanctuary Onslaught, Cephalon Simaris hunts, and Plains of Eidolon bounties.

* I’ve had one mission where several escaped convicts turned up as bonus Capture targets to earn a bit of extra Nightwave standing.

Cons:

* Getting Nightmare mods will involve a lot more RNG and Nightmare missions could be hard to find groups for now there are no longer Nightmare Alerts.

* I don’t think they’ve told us anywhere how long this season will last for, so it’s unclear how many of the reward tiers those who don’t play as often will be able to reach. Though at first glance the balance between Daily and Weekly challenges looks like those who only play e.g. at weekends won’t miss out on too much progression opportunity compared to those who play every day.

* The extra bit of story and worldbuilding is nice, but there’s not nearly as much of it as I’d hoped for. Basically just an opening vignette with voiceover exposition.

* One more con, along with Alerts they’ve also removed the mission challenges like “get 10 melee kills” or “use your 1st ability 5 times” which gave a bit of bonus xp, I liked the way those provided a bit of incentive to switch up your gameplay occasionally.

Thanks sophiskiai for all this info, you should apply for the Warframe column. I love these nutshells.

Thanks for the compliment! But I think MJ’s going to be doing the Warframe column? And even if the site was looking for someone else to do it, there are so so many reasons I’d be a bad columnist. I don’t do well with deadlines, for starters.

Not melee 3.0 yet or Railjack, but I like the VA they got for Nightwave. Honestly after dealing with Lotus and Ordis in my earholes for so long anyone would be good, but I’m pleasantly surprised – as I am by much of what DE / Warframe does.

After weeks of no Warframe, I decided to log in on a whim, a scant two hours after the patch drop. *flexes* My subconscious has great timing.

It appears to be replacing the old Alerts system with a token buy system comprised of Daily and Weekly tasks, mostly Weekly so there’s more flexibility of when to play.

I’m not sure how long another Daily/Weekly system will hold my attention personally; my response to all this game design conditioning has been to learn how to ignore the Pavlovian response for not-currently playing games.

But hey, Corrosive Projection is on current offer, something I’ve never caught an alert for yet, so I guess I know what I’ll be doing until Synthesis League opens in Path of Exile.

Heh. As if I needed a reason to play Warframe.

So, coolio! If I win the Mega Million lottery I’ll get that $1000 dollar pass. I wonder if attending an NPC voice recording session means you get to be the voice? Now, that would be cool!

Reader

Yep, you get to have your voice in the game :)

Generally as one of the nameless NPCs having background conversations in the relays and hubs.

Woot! Yes! That’s good stuff there, DE. I love it.
