This is why we can’t have nice things: ArenaNet was forced to disable some map rewards in Guild Wars 2 last night thanks to an exploit. As GW2 players know, the chance of getting a lockbox key when you fully finish off a map in the game is pretty sweet, since it’s one of the only ways you can pick up a key to lockboxes without buying them and engaging with the whole lockbox system.
“We are temporarily removing Black Lion Keys and Transmutation Charges from all map completion reward tables while we fix an exploit,” the studio tweeted last night. “All other map completion rewards are unaffected.”
The problem, as Redditors sussed out, is actually a result of the newly added Recharging Teleport to Friend item, which was effectively allowing people to teleport in a brand-new alt, map complete one of the easier, smaller maps for that toon, grab the rewards (including potentially valuable keys and transmutes), delete the toon to reroll, and repeat, as fast as they could manage. Which is a bummer because the Recharging Teleport to Friend item is one of the best things ArenaNet’s added to the cash shop in years for small groups. Hopefully they figure out a way to fix the ‘sploit while keeping the TP.
