Camelot Unchained chucks cows and batters rams in its latest Top Tenish update

18

This week, Camelot Unchained’s Top Tenish list puts a particular emphasis on the “ish,” as it’s actually a solid top 20 list of items that the City State Games team has made substantial progress on this week. In fact, the devs aren’t planning a testing session this weekend on account of the fact that “so much code has been landing this week that it’s going to take [them] some time to get a solid build ready.” The team has made a “first pass at multithreading the NPC server,” which was a major bottleneck that the devs felt they needed to address, though doing so is likely to “expose some new bottlenecks,” so players in upcoming testing sessions may experience a few issues in large-scale battles. It’s all in the service of future progress, though.

On a slightly more morbid note, the devs have also made significant progress on creating new siege engines, including the thoroughly disgusting but brutally effective corpse chuckers, which do exactly what it says on the tin. There’s even a new cow model in both living and dead-and-decomposing flavors, the latter of which will ultimately be used as ammunition for the aforementioned corpse chuckers. And lastly, on the animation side of things, the team has made a bunch of progress on animation for the two-handed greatsword, including animations for a couple of attacks, deflection, and death, which you can check out along with all of the other in-progress designs over in this week’s update on the game’s official site.

No excuses for being late but if we didn’t mention it before we went into development, we couldn’t have funded the game. And we’re in our sixth year of development, not our 7th yet. As we said during the Kickstarter, we didn’t develop any of the game prior to the KS (2013), and we didn’t start work on it till the fall of 2013.

Again, no excuses, but as our updates/tests are showing, progress is happening at a much faster rate on the game, as opposed to the engine, than previous years. This is due to some nice additions to the team as well as the fact that we don’t have to spend as much time on the engine.

I’m sorry that you lost your interest in the game but at least we’re still paying refunds and who knows, maybe because you were treated the right way by us (even though we spent the money that our initial KS backers gave us of course), you might return when we launch?

Thanks Dakota for your past support, I hope you decide to rejoin us when we launch!

Reading what your typed and it makes no sense. You cant make an mmo without it at least 5+ years of development. Add to that, that they have had to made their own game engine on top of that and they seem pretty on track honestly. Its a full PVP game and that requires a different type of client and thought process for the mmo in general. Not only that but they are not bloating the game up like Star Citizen has done. They seem to be focused and have set their parameters where they need to be. They also seem disciplined enough not to keep adding features to it like Chris Roberts cant stop doing. Only thing im worried about with this game is the Power Mutator thing, im worried that will be “A Bridge to Far” in regards to getting class balance right.

In a siege situation is it wise to give the enemy beefburgers ?

So, players can chuck decaying cows presumably to infect the enemy with diseases which they might die from in a few weeks or a month.

Strangely appropriate coming from this team.

ARTHUR: What happens now?

BEDEVERE: Well, now, uh, Lancelot, Galahad, and I, uh, wait until nightfall, and then leap out of the rabbit, taking the French, uh, by surprise. Not only by surprise, but totally unarmed!

ARTHUR: Who leaps out?

BEDEVERE: U– u– uh, Lancelot, Galahad, and I. Uh, leap out of the rabbit, uh, and uh…

If there’s any kind of system where you can take trophies from your kills, it would be great to launch those as well.

Remember that time we killed your commander?

*Kthunk*

You can have them back!

Reht, you had to go there, didn’t you?

All I can say in response to that is that we would never milk a pun, or steak our reputation on this, leather or not we cud pull this off!
