Fourth of July celebrations in MMOs are always a curious event in games with broad global reach, which is possibly why so many skip them – or convert them into something more palatable for players outside the US. Star Wars Galaxies was one that chose the latter with its dual Empire Day/Remembrance Day events, and starting this week, player-run rogue server SWG Legends is kicking off those events for modern gamers once again.
“That time of the year has arrived once again where we take a moment to honor those who are still engaged in the ongoing Galactic Civil War and the continuing sacrifices being made by both sides of the conflict. Throughout the galaxy, everyone is paying their respects to the lost, the fallen, and the still fighting. It’s a time where morale is at its height for both the Galactic Empire and Rebellion. Join us this year for another amazing seasonal event where we celebrate our factional pride and celebrate for the gone but not forgotten! Login between June 17th and July 15th to take part in Empire Day/Remembrance Day.”
Imperial players will head to Theed, Naboo, for questing and badges and speeches from no less than Darth Vader, while Rebels will gather in Coronet on Corellia to witness Leia Organa’s pep rally and complete their own batch of tasks. Neutral players can choose up whichever side. Rewards for participation include everything from paintings and propaganda posters to minis and house signs. An additional five (!) live events are planned during the next few weeks as well.
