The latest update to No Man’s Sky is at once the sort of thing that feels more isolating and less so. You can imagine, for example, how lonesome it would feel to load into the game in a VR headset, staring at an empty space devoid of other people. But then you remember that the update allows for 32 people to be playing in the same multiplayer session and interacting with full model display while hanging out on the new social hub of the Space Anomaly, and it at once feels more isolated and more connected than before.
And those are just two of the marquee changes. The patch also adds in Nexus Missions to be taken on with other players together in social settings, new story missions and missions to help new players start their journey, and a new discovery page to make it easier to catalog the things you’ve found. There’s also the new tech tree system along with balance improvements, new traveler NPCs, new alien encounters… there’s a lot more on display in the world, in short. So there’s lots of good stuff for experienced fans, and if you’ve never headed into the darkness of deep space, now seems like the time to try it out.
