The popular Guild Wars 2 YouTuber WoodenPotatoes has been quite busy lately. How busy? Try producing a 27 chapter-long audiobook that’s set in the game’s world and releasing it to YouTube.
The book is Ghosts of Ascalon by authors Matt Forbek and Jeff Grubb, which tells a tale set a year before the original launch of Guild Wars 2. The novel chronicles the adventures of a party who are tasked by Kryta’s Queen Jennah to recover an artifact known as the Claw of the Khan-Ur in order to help negotiate peace between humans and charr.
“A mismatched band of adventurers, each plagued by ghosts of their own, sets forth into a haunted, war-torn land to retrieve the Claw. Without the artifact, there is no hope for peace between humans and charr—but the undead king who rules Ascalon won’t give it up easily, and not everyone wants peace!”
The audiobook version of this novel is the result of four or five years’ worth of effort for WoodenPotatoes, two of which involved an official push by NCsoft to create the audiobook. For those who regularly follow WoodenPotatoes’ channel, the first five chapters of this audiobook had already been released, but additional chapters weren’t recorded due to extremely low viewer count. However, he buckled down over the past week and has completed the whole project.
If you’re interested in getting your fill of Ascalonian lore and Guild Wars 2-flavored story time, there are few better places to start.
