LOTRO’s future includes River-Hobbits, Mission feature, and a new type of server

The folks over at MMO Central have posted a couple of interviews with Standing Stone Games that sheds some additional light on Lord of the Rings Online’s future. There’s some exciting nuggets of news here, such as the fact that Rohan housing will contain hooks for player mounts, low-level players will be able to visit high-level areas via a new Missions feature, and the promised Aragorn/Arwen wedding actually will be a yearly event.

Even more exciting is that SSG is teasing a new type of legendary server and a Hobbit race variant named River-Hobbits. Hobbit lovers who have been itching for new class combinations may have something to be excited about when their cousins arrive.

There’s also a chat with LOTRO and DDO Composer Bill Champagne, who talks about his favorite compositions and themes in the game.

It should also be noted that the Minas Morgul expansion and Stout-Axe Dwarf race now are available in the LOTRO store, which is good news for those thrifty players who have been saving up their LOTRO Points for this very occasion.

Meh. Best news would be that they’re lowering the price of all the older expansions to $10 each. It’d be prohibitively expensive to get back into the game, or for a new player to start.

Some of this news is a little underwhelming, but the fact that development is continuing is good. With the horses being something you can add in the housing makes this worthwhile to me.

The thing that irks me the most about LotRO in the last year was how they handled the crafting carry-alls that came with the higher versions of the Minas Morgul expansion. For the first time, a pricey perk was available on only one server. So if you were someone who has been playing on a main server and decided to also play on the Legendary servers on and off after each gate opened, you were screwed. Unless of course you wanted to buy the expensive expansion twice.

I still don’t understand the logic behind that. These perks should have been treated like all other expansions, being available to the first character who logs in on each server rather than the first character on the whole account.

Seeing what they done to the existing LS… no thank you. How quickly that excitement faded. Ugh, I’m sorry, but I’m bitter over what has happened to a game I loved and played for over a decade.

Shame on you SSG.

They are River-folk, not River-hobbits :). Also i’m not sure what another class will be viable for hobbits?? Champions probably?

They’re Stoor-Hobbits, not River-folk or River-hobbits.
