Darkest Dungeon joins a PvP circus for one last show

Fans of the grimly narrated Darkest Dungeon gave low chuckles at seeing Red Hook Studios put up a preview of a new PvP feature on April 1st — but it turns out that this was no jape. A day later, Red Hook Studios confirmed that the acclaimed dungeon crawler indeed is slated to get multiplayer in the form of 4v4 arena combat.

The upcoming Butcher’s Circus DLC opens up the titular new location with “no-holds-barred PvP combat with teams of four heroes.” Players won’t have to put their campaign heroes on the line for this, by the way, and can engage for glory, banner components, and other rewards. The free DLC will include more music, narrator lines, and “gladiator trinkets” that are specifically made for PvP.

“It’s something we’ve wanted to try for while now, and thought it would be fun to put it out there for our players. It’s our way of adding some value to the game, providing content to our community, and doing a little experimentation,” the team said.

The Butcher’s Circus is coming to Steam some time next month. Red Hook also is hard at work on creating Darkest Dungeon 2.
