League of Legends esports matches will now have ads on the battlefield

Yes, *this* was the part of professional sports that was missing

This is what we were really missing.

At long last, Riot Games is going to bring the most desired part of professional sports to the esports events of League of Legends by introducing advertising to the matches! Yes, starting with next month’s Summer Split matches, viewers can expect to see banners enticing them to crack open a cold brew from Mastercard or enjoy the flavor of chicken wings from Alienware. (Or whatever goods those companies sell, we forget sometimes.) Advertising makes money!

Fortunately (or not), these ads will not be visible to players within the match, only to people viewing the match, as this will apparently minimize any distractions for players on the actual field. So if the part that had left you always feeling as if esports might not be like traditional sports was the fact that the walls aren’t plastered with advertisements, the good news is that now you’ll be able to get just that when you watch the match.
