One is about surveilling penguins, one is about creating your own effigy. Both are part of RuneScape’s latest update. Choose your poison. Or don’t; you can totally do both things if you want to.
The latest update to the MMORPG has brought on the Effigy Incubator, a new monthly Diversion and Distraction that lets players craft effigies and take them along on their adventures to fill them with knowledge. Once an effigy is full of knowledge — aka has gained 60,000 XP from watching your character perform skill tasks — it can be cracked open to reveal an XP-boosting prize, and depending on the effigy type, players can get XP stars or XP lamps that can be further upgraded.
The update has also introduced the previously detailed rework to Penguin Hide and Seek. In this Diversion and Distraction, it’s up to players to help the Polar Bears for Justice track down Killer Gentoo Penguins, and doing so will offer a variety of rewards like titles, a penguin tracking device, and Sheldon the Baby Penguin pet. And who wouldn’t want a baby penguin toddling along on their adventures?
The devs at Jagex held a livestream that went deep into the Effigy Incubator’s mechanics, which can either be watched in the embed below or read up on in this TL;DW summary, while the latest patch notes offer details about this week’s update.
