Defiance and Defiance 2050 celebrate the holidays while offering server compensation

Ho-ho-hopefully you like fighting the Volge in Defiance and Defiance 2050 because that’s the game’s Christmas event this year. Yes, running until January 11th, both games are summoning special Arkfalls with 2050 offering a selection of new prototype weaponry and gear while the original game offers special contracts to clear. It wouldn’t quite be right to say that the Volge are trying to steal the holidays, but if that helps motivate you to focus your fire, no one’s going to say otherwise.

Of course, this is all assuming that you’re not suffering from server issues, something the designers have acknowledged is hitting players in general and PlayStation 3 users in particular. This is apparently a result of developing in an older environment and necessary server moves, but by way of compensation anyone who logs in between now and the end of the year to either game will get a small compensation pack of goodies. Here’s hoping that ameliorates the server issues.

Kind of surprised that Defiance and 2050 are still kicking. I imagine the games must not have more than a few hundred playing between the versions at its very best.

I’d put money on a surprisingly large console playerbase that’s even quieter (though much smaller) than DCUO.

It doesn’t seem like they put MUCH into the game, mostly just bringing back/slightly updating events by the looks of it. I don’t think it’s had a proper content update like, since it released? Maybe a paid DLC class I think?

I assume it’s a combination of no active developers plus input costs being hosting which is dirt cheap and getting someone to power cycle the servers every few weeks, versus a community that probably has a good few high-rolling whales still playing and buying crates.

It’s like a vicious cycle and one that started with Trion (now Gamigo) management not caring one iota about their customers or providing quality.
