Back in December, we caught wind of the 2003 MMORPG Shadowbane preparing for a return on Steam after publisher Changyou snapped up the rights in 2012; you can read up the Game Archaeologist’s roundup if you’re curious about this one’s history. In that initial report, all signs pointed to a global release in late January after the game first released in 2015 in China as World of Shadowbane, but thanks to a tip about the game’s newly opened Steam page, it now looks like the title will arrive sometime in February of this year.
The new Steam page for World of Shadowbane offers up a rough rundown of its features, touting 12 races, 22 occupations, 48 affiliated occupations, more than 200 attribute points, and more than 500 skill points. It also prides itself on having “freedom and cruelty” as its characteristics, with open PvP available while also promising “a fair competition for power.” The Steam page also mentions in-app purchases, which seems to suggest a free-to-play launch, though nowadays that’s not necessarily a guarantee.
More information is likely to spring up in the weeks heading in to World of Shadowbane’s launch, but at least now we have a bit more information on this classic title’s return.
