Cliff Bleszinski, aka CliffyB, aka Dude Huge, has often made headlines for his shimmying in and out of game dev. Readers will recall back in 2018 that he claimed to be done with making games, followed by a suggestion in 2020 that he’d be returning to the games industry after all, albeit “slowly and cautiously.” It would appear that slow and cautious pace is indeed coming to fruition, as Bleszinski has tweeted that he’s “working on some new stuff.”
What this “new stuff” is is hard to say, as the tweet also mentions he’s not able to talk freely about it. He also points out in a follow-up tweet that it may not necessarily be a video game. That said, replies from veteran game dev and consultant Rami Ismail seem to suggest that it’s going to be a gaming project of some form. What we can say for sure is that there will be no chainsaws.
To say that Bleszinski’s recent impact on multiplayer gaming has been… unique is an understatement. Readers will recall that CliffyB formed Boss Key Studios, which developed the multiplayer team shooter LawBreakers and the battle royale title Radical Heights, both of which flopped so spectacularly that the studio shut down shortly after. Bleszinski also made headlines for his mannerisms, saying that the press can f*** off and that LawBreakers failed because it was “too woke.” Hopefully, Ismail can impress upon Cliffy the need for proper, uh, public relations.
