Hey, so remember how Phantasy Star Online 2 is supposed to be reinventing itself as New Genesis this year, not all that long after finally launching in the west? Yeah, it’s been a whirlwind for this antique MMORPG, and it’s only going to get more exciting as SEGA has just announced when we can expect the global beta test to get underway: May 14th.

“This beta period will have a limited number of applicants who can register at a first come, first served basis, so make sure you sign up quickly once the registration starts!” the company writes. “Those who join in to play the PSO2:NGS Global CBT will receive a participation reward, to be revealed at a later date.”

Experience the vast open world of PSO2:NGS, set a thousand years after the events of PSO2, for the first time as a PSO2 Global player. During this testing period, we will also collect your valuable opinions and feedback to make the game the best experience it can be. We are looking forward to your applications then!

Start Date: 05/14 09:00 PM (America/New_York)
End Date: 05/16 10:00 PM (America/New_York)
Platform: Windows 10 PC (Microsoft Store)
Registration Starts: 04/21 01:00 PM (America/New_York) via the Xbox Insider Hub App

In other PSO2 news, the live game has today rolled out a new patch with the Final Battle: Space-Time Interstice, which pits level 90+ toons against the Primordial Darkness in a solo mission.

I watched some of the gameplay vids for it and it looks kinda, boring? Hardly what I was expecting PSO would be like by now when I first played it 21 years ago. The graphical update does like nice though so I feel many people will play it just for the ‘waifu’ aspect alone.

I haven’t been bothering with PSO2 because of New Genesis (and already playing quite a bit of it on Japan servers in the past), so hopefully it’ll be worth the wait.

?

It’s a bad decision and should be called as such.

Also it’s through the Microsoft Store on PC (again) and I remember the nightmare that was trying to figure out how to get PSO2 working through that (and having to deal with the uninstall issues where they’d save the whole freaking game in a backup folder that’s locked by Windows unless you painstakingly change permissions one subfolder at a time).

It’s a clever way of making sure only the most diehard fans sign up for the beta

Guess so, I just hope the MS store issues that PSO2 had won’t be encountered this time around. I did not enjoy digging to figure out how to fix it.

It was awfully dogshit. Having to mess with register and protected folders to play a glorified loot-shooter.

bots will steal all the keys, then sell them no doubt
