Path of Exile releases patch notes, passive tree data, and item filter information for the Ultimatum update

While the Ultimatum League for Path of Exile is still two days away from arriving to PC players, the folks at Grinding Gear Games have very helpfully allowed fans to pass those two days by reading some exhaustive patch notes and filing through passive tree and item changes. How thoughtful.

In true GGG fashion, the Ultimatum patch notes are extremely detailed, providing information on the titular Challenge League, content features, Atlas map changes, and a long list of balance adjustments. On the subject of balance adjustments, there’s also a separate post that shares item filter information, new item details, and JSON data for passive tree adjustments available for download in order to help players prepare their builds. As for map tiers, those are unchanged from Ritual, which is kind of like taking off about four pages from reading War and Peace but is likely good to know regardless.

A few interesting changes in here but kinda a “meh” league. The league is just more “stop! Kill this shit in a circle” mechanics and most of the patch note changes are just heavy nerfs while not bringing much up to be excited about. There’s some new phys spell stuff that seems a bit interesting but playing new stuff is always a bit risky. Even the challenge rewards are pretty uninteresting.

If I had other game I was into I’d probably skip this one entirely but I’ll probably spend a few weeks figuring out the new rewards/mechanics since they overhauled all the rewards then drop out for the new Destiny 2 season if it’s a banger in a month.

RIP hopes for skill gem buffs. At least the meta is getting slapped around a bit so hopefully it should push folks to those less-used gems so they can complain to GGG about how bad and nearly useless many are.

Still probably giving this league a miss, but may mess around with some kind of bleed-based build to see if there’s anything fun to do with corrupted blood. No Captain America fun, maybe a boring ass bleed bow build or something.

The big idea I had for corrupted blood was:

Gladiator
Wand skill (Kinetic Bolt/Blast/etc)
Spellsling: Exanguinate
Corrupted Blood
Bleed/Bleedsplosions

Spellslinging wand attacks should proc bleeds which should proc bleedsplosions and scales with damage over time. Exsanguinate’s HP costs should refresh Corrupted Blood automatically and auto cast off of the Kinetic wand skill making it basically a one button build outside of some way to deliver Vulnerability or whatever curse.

Spellsling reserves mana so you’d have to find another way to spend life to keep the Corrupted Blood buff up, also it’d eat a touch into your HP pool but block so whatever.

I dig the concept, may spend some time tinkering around with it to see if there’s something viable there. The flat damage on Exsanguinate is ABSURD though and I’m almost wondering if there’s another way to use/proc it without the cast time, because outside of that it looks completely bonkers.
