If you’ve been following the PTR progress for New World, you probably already are familiar with what the devs at Amazon Games are up to as of last week: Wars are now 40v40 affairs in the latest public testing build, the reasons for which are explained in a more recent forum post from the devs.
According to the post, the shift isn’t set in stone and is an experiment, but the idea is to make wars feel less chaotic and more tactical while still retaining the epic nature of the skirmish’s scale. The devs are also looking into making war an always available instanced feature like outpost rush, but that will have to come sometime further in the future.
In addition to the scale shift, the test build is also stopping defenders from spawning at capture points in an effort to give attackers a better chance of success; right now, defenders win 80% of wars and the devs would like to see that closer to 60%. This adjustment should, ideally, make it easier for attackers to capture points and take out entrenched defenders.
Testing is still ongoing for this shift, so those who are interested in how this plays out are invited to join the PTR and submit their honest feedback.
