Just like you, I’ve seen all the teases and the supposed leaks, and I still don’t entirely know what to expect from the World of Warcraft expansion reveal today. But I’m also in a weird place because I’m largely apathetic to what’s being announced; I don’t really think there’s anything WoW alone can do that would make me personally spend money with Blizzard again, certainly not yet.
But at the same time, I don’t particularly want to see the game fall any lower than it already has, since so much of the perception of the health of the genre has been linked to WoW, fair or not. I tend to think that if WoW is doing well – and recapturing the millions of players who’ve rightly abandoned it over the last several years – it boosts the industry overall, which means better outcomes for other MMOs. So in that sense, I’m rooting for the individual devs to score a win today, if not the leadership or the company.
