The Daily Grind: Do you play shorties, tallies, or both in MMOs?

MMOs seldom offer us many choices in body build or weight, but most of them do deliver sliders when it comes to height. And yet I still pretty much never play tall toons regardless of the slider availability.

In real life, I’m very short. I don’t really mind it, save that buying off-the-rack short clothes usually still requires length adjustments. In fact, I’m very comfortable with being short, being the person looking up at taller friends and family, to the point that when I’m in a position of looking down, I feel really wrong, Alice in Wonderland-ish. And that’s exactly what playing tall characters does to me in MMOs: I feel awkward, like an imposter somehow? I’m far more likely to play a dude or an alien than a tall anything.

Love y’all tallies, but I guess I don’t have enough practice at it. Maybe if I were tall, I’d feel equally weird as a shortie – I don’t know! My husband’s a foot taller than I am, and he plays gnomes and dwarves and asura all the time, so maybe not.

Do you play shorties, tallies, or both in MMOs? Does your real-life height play any role in your choices?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
