Anime hero shooter Second Wave shares gameplay footage and thoughts from its first beta

Over the past couple of months we’ve been reporting on Second Wave, a hero shooter/MOBA hybrid dressed up in anime style from developer Challengers Games, a studio that counts alums from several other games like TERA and Black Desert among its team. The game first was first shown off this past March, then made its debut at this year’s Gamescom in August, and then started its first beta test earlier this month.

With beta testing complete, Challengers CEO and game producer Tamura Koji has issued a letter about the beta, which acknowledges the variety of bugs that surfaced during the test including matchmaking issues, connectivity problems, social bugs, and frame drops, yet also celebrated the 18,991 active players across three continents and three platforms who battled in 37,442 total matches.

On the subject of the game’s problems, Tamura noted a focus on fixing stability problems that plagued the game, promised to not split the matchmaking pool between NA East and West players, outlined a focus on improving the domination game mode, and confirmed that the lesser-played three-way battle and stone grab modes will get more development work done in order to make them more appealing.

Seconds Wave’s second beta test has no timeline yet, with Tamura simply saying that it will come online as soon as the studio feels like the shooter has improved. In the meantime, there’s video footage from several streamers as well as the final minutes of the beta’s final match to watch below.
