Post-apoc multiplayer shooter Once Human launches its multiplayer beta on PC today

Over the past couple of years we’ve kept a weather eye on Once Human, a multiplayer post-apocalyptic survival shooter from NetEase-owned Starry Studio that pitches players into a “weird” world full of mutated monsters, PvE and PvP activities, and survival trademarks like base building, gathering, and crafting. The game was originally projecting a Q4 2023 launch but pushed that back to later this year, and it was looking to kick off a multiplayer beta in March but had to push that back as well in the interest of adding “a smoother and more immersive experience for all players.”

That beta test date change appears to have held firm, as the game is now available to download on PC, with servers scheduled to open today, April 3rd, at 10:00 p.m. EST. The delay of this third beta test resulted in a staggering number of updates to the shooter, including new dungeons, new weapons, a deepening of the game’s pet system (aka deviants), adjustments to survival and crafting, and a new Eternaland area that will let players build freely in-between season.

This beta test is currently available to PC players only, as an earlier scheduled mobile beta had to be postponed so Starry could tighten the screws of the mobile edition. A planned livestream for the start of beta has also been cancelled as a result of a team member falling ill and the devs at Starry working on the title.

Timing for when beta testing ends wasn’t announced, but players are being advised that they have to make a character before 7:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, April 4th, to be able to join in, otherwise they’ll “need to use an activation code.” How one gets such a code isn’t immediately clear.
