The Daily Grind: What’s the longest you’ve ever spent working on a specific MMO goal?

Seriously, though, whatever.

The other day, I saw a tweet from Wowhead that quoted Blizzard confirming that it’s meant to take a long, long time to collect all the birdies from World of Warcraft’s Noblegarden… six years, in fact, and that’s not an April Fools’ day joke. Something about the revelation provoked my contrary side; it’s the kind of grind that seems so annoying to me that I just wouldn’t ever bother at all.

And yet, there are some goals I’ve accomplished that have taken as long or longer than that, like rebuilding my Star Wars Galaxies empire or starting over in Lord of the Rings Online. Maybe the mitigating factor here is that I want those things and appreciate the whole experience, whereas waiting six years for a bird skin collection seems arbitrary and obnoxious.
