So a few weekends ago, I was doing overworld questing on my Hobbit Hunter in Lord of the Rings Online when I caught myself doing something very silly. I realized that I kept reflexively hitting Purge Poison to clear poison before I could heal up, which is… not true in LOTRO. And the reason I have that so ingrained in my brain is literally Ultima Online, which I have not seriously played in, gosh, at least five years now? (I probably said on the podcast when I dropped my house, but I forget!) In UO, you absolutely, positively had to hit that cure potion or spell first, otherwise your heal would fail. In fact, if you were mid-bandage when you got poisoned, the bandy would cure you rather than heal you. UO’s combat was surprisingly fast and reflexes mattered a lot, so it was super easy to die to a mistake like that. We learned quick.
Why I’m still bringing this habit with me into other MMORPGs is another story, though, and one of these days it’ll get me killed in LOTRO instead!
Do you bring any habits from one MMO to the next? Good habits or bad habits or just silly habits?
