Starship Simulator checks in with progress on test build updates, a demo patch, and job searches

Back in April we first reported on Starship Simulator, a multiplayer sci-fi title from indie developer Fleetyard Studios that seeks to… well, simulate life on a starship as players explore a 1:1 replica of the Milky Way galaxy. The game’s Kickstarter drive pulled in almost half a million dollars, unlocking multiple stretch goals along the way, and when we checked into its demo for OPTV, we found an unfinished yet extremely deep proof-of-concept experience.

Since then, the studio has been keeping itself busy if the latest Kickstarter update is anything to go by. Fleetyard has noted that it’s released 20 different build updates to those who backed the game at Captain tier and above, the most recent of which applied a few fixes, while an internal build being worked on is adding more stars to the galaxy and building out some of the ship decks.

The devs are also working on a patch that’s coming to the aforementioned Steam demo, which will overhaul the Magellan class vessel, improve the UI for sensors and planetary scanning, and add 18.2 million stars from the Gaia DR3 catalogue to the galaxy.

The Kickstarter post also notes that Fleetyard is seeking several new developers to help with things like modeling and coding, is planning to release a VR version test build once the demo update is released, and then is planning to begin work on another demo patch that will focus on controller support, the sublight flight model, wormholes, and additional spaceship collisions with smaller objects. Fleetyard has also opened up a Ko-fi shop for those who want to either purchase or upgrade a crowdfunding tier package.
