A while back on Twitter, during a discussion about ways in which AI can and can’t be useful in games writing, MMO dev Damion Schubert noted that it’s often the most innocuous lines of dialogue in a game that catch fire. His example? Diablo.

“Deckard Cain’s ‘Stay awhile and listen’ is etched into the brains of everyone who ever played a Diablo. Sometimes, the unimportant-seeming lines end up being the identity of the game.”
