Blue Protocol is shutting down in Japan and will not be localized for the west

Bye, guys.

The writing has appeared to be on the wall for a while now, but it’s now official: Blue Protocol is being shut down in Japan as of January 18th, 2025. This also means that the plans for the game’s Western release have been canceled. The announcements went live on the game’s Japanese site as well as the English site, as the studios stated that Bandai Namco Online had a positive working relationship with Amazon Games through the localization process and the team is sorry that the game cannot be brought to a worldwide audience.

Neither company gives a specific reasons for the closure, but the game’s weaker player counts, its multiple delays during development, and Bandai Namco Online’s own financial troubles have led to increased speculation that the game wasn’t coming westward as originally planned. It also had been left off of Amazon’s release schedule with increasing regularity.

Our condolences to the teams that had been working on the game, as well as the Japanese fans who will be losing a game and the Western fans who had been looking forward to the title.

Update
Amazon told MMORPG.com that “all members of the Blue Protocol team will have new roles at Amazon Games” and that the devs “supporting Blue Protocol will be re-assigned to other projects on the horizon” – a tall order given how many people have been laid off in the industry and at Amazon specifically in the last few years.
