DayZ brings a frosty new map with related new dangers in its Frostline DLC

Life in DayZ can arguably be pretty rough, but it could also always be much worse. For example, players could find themselves in a frigid landscape within the survivalbox with all of the threats and miseries that sort of setting suggests. However, if that is something you want to experience as a player, you now have that option with a purchase of the Frostline DLC.

Frostline provides players access to the frozen volcanic archipelago of Sakhal, an 80 square kilometer map of late winter snow-covered wilderness. Naturally this means there are new survival mechanics for players to concern themselves with, such as maintaining warmth, hunting for sustenance in a harsher environment, and facing new environmental hazards, new wildlife threats, and new diseases.

It’s not all frigid misery, however, as the expansion also provides enhanced fishing, the ability to operate boats, and loot adjustments that now take map location into consideration for loot, meaning cold weather clothes can be found in Sokhal and warmer weather clothing at Livonia. This loot change as well as lowered storage capacity for clothing is extensive enough that official servers have been wiped; community servers are recommended to do the same.

The Frostline DLC will set you back about $27, but it’s on sale for 10% off between now and October 29th. A trailer showing off some of the chilly new features awaits below.
