The Daily Grind: Which MMOs could still use a classic plus mode?

I don’t even remember which MMO it was now, but the other day Chris turned in a post that mentioned some MMO and its “classic++” mode. Plus plus. My head exploded. This genre has come up with kind of a lot of ways to normalize “we screwed up, reverted to much earlier build people liked, but then we had to make money, so we started developing again.” And really, I’m not actually mad about it. Opening a classic server – if there’s actually demand for it – really is eating some humble pie for the sake of the game and its players and developers.

In fact, while some MMOs are out there with their classic++ silliness, others are out there throwing up a static throwback server and then letting it sit untouched, which isn’t my preference at all. So today I want to talk about the games that could stand to benefit from a classic plus mode – an older school version of the game that still gets heavy development and forks hard away from both the modern game and the original in its day – like Old School RuneScape or even City of Heroes. Which MMOs could still use a classic plus mode?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
