On the one hand, hearing that a game is merging its servers into one usually sounds like bad news. On the other hand, when that game requires players to queue up for some competitive clashing, having one server is good. But then isn’t that also a bad omen? This is the mental ping pong match that may occur while reading the latest patch notes from Predecessor, the revivified version of Epic Games’ MOBA Paragon.
“A long-awaited change has finally arrived — as of April 8th, the NA-EAST and NA-WEST servers will merge into a single server location: NA-Central,” heralds the post. “That means no more splitting our North American player base — and potentially shorter queue times? Count us in!”
That same portion of the notes incidentally points out that OCE servers will remain online “permanently” and also hints that servers for other regions could be announced soon. So perhaps things are growing around the globe, even as Steam numbers have dipped, though bear in mind the MOBA is also available on EGS and consoles; consider all of that if these data mean a lot to you.
The latest patch also features additional Discord integration into the game such as the ability to privately message Discord friends even if they’re not in-game, send messages to party members ahead of queue, or “reach out to individual players directly,” which will almost certainly not be abused by players of a competitive title because Gamers™ are well-adjusted and mentally mature.
Other highlights for the update include several new contextual in-game tips that hope to help players learn the ropes; a first iteration of minimap updates that helps with general visibility of lanes, objectives, and the map itself; and a suite of adjustments to general gameplay mechanics and specific heroes.
