Stormiest future — or storm-bringer? Chronicles of Elyria hopes to be the latter according to its newest developer blog. “Last year, people told us we weren’t strong enough to withstand the storm,” the team says. “This year, we are the storm.”
The post is a much-needed update on the game’s progress after a lengthy period of quiet. The team says it’s been keeping its head down while completing Release 0.5.0 in a couple of months, which will be “a complete, playable game” that it can show to the community. “And while there’s been a lull in our messaging and communication, this is no sign of slowdowns or delays. Quite the opposite,” Soulbound Studios writes, presumably referencing the same community concerns over the lack of community streams and dev vlogs we wrote about last week.
The studio apparently moved into a larger office space last fall and has been working on hiring three people in the past month alone, which is good news given that last year the Kickstarted game saw layoffs and alleged salary cutbacks. Chronicles of Elyria is currently in pre-alpha development, which is working up to a functional client and server. It did show off a few low-poly pictures from its “Prelyria” client and said that it’s about three-fifths of the way to finishing all of the features that it wants for this build.
And here’s a fun tease from the studio: “We’ve got a very big announcement for the community coming up in the next couple months, as the Pre-Alpha may not be the first opportunity for players to jump into the world of Elyria!”
