Chronicles of Elyria vows to ‘bring the storm’ this year, according to new dev blog

Stormiest future — or storm-bringer? Chronicles of Elyria hopes to be the latter according to its newest developer blog. “Last year, people told us we weren’t strong enough to withstand the storm,” the team says. “This year, we are the storm.”

The post is a much-needed update on the game’s progress after a lengthy period of quiet. The team says it’s been keeping its head down while completing Release 0.5.0 in a couple of months, which will be “a complete, playable game” that it can show to the community. “And while there’s been a lull in our messaging and communication, this is no sign of slowdowns or delays. Quite the opposite,” Soulbound Studios writes, presumably referencing the same community concerns over the lack of community streams and dev vlogs we wrote about last week.

The studio apparently moved into a larger office space last fall and has been working on hiring three people in the past month alone, which is good news given that last year the Kickstarted game saw layoffs and alleged salary cutbacks. Chronicles of Elyria is currently in pre-alpha development, which is working up to a functional client and server. It did show off a few low-poly pictures from its “Prelyria” client and said that it’s about three-fifths of the way to finishing all of the features that it wants for this build.

And here’s a fun tease from the studio: “We’ve got a very big announcement for the community coming up in the next couple months, as the Pre-Alpha may not be the first opportunity for players to jump into the world of Elyria!”

In the article and on the screenshots:

– “It did show off a few low-poly pictures from its “Prelyria” client…”

I think, they also had/have a 2D-version to try out one of the earlier systems…

The graphics look like play doh, I just hope it doesn’t have stop motion style animations…

Lot of fluff in there, several thousand words worth of fluff. I admit to backing this project, and consider it a lost cause at this point. I do want them to be successful and I hope they can make some sort of viable product from this, however, until I see more concrete evidence that the game is progressing, I won’t get my hopes up. Two years ago I felt the same way about Star Citizen, until they started to make some major progress, so maybe just maybe Soulbound studios will come through as well.

this game and games like these are why i do not back ks mmos. way too easy to fail and people usually ask for far too little money.

difference between this and sc though, is that sc still has people throwing money at it.

While I got some concerns about their concept(living, dying and taking control of your next decendant) I hope they manage to progress and release. I also think they need better PR since being confrontational never helped any Developer

Ummm, they did not hire 17 people. They hired 3. They interviewed 17. Apparently interviewing 17 people in a year makes the State of Elyria update exciting.

They are the storm? Sure. Someone give that kid a lollipop and a pat on the head for me.

You are correct. They interviewed 17 and hired 3. Apparently in a year from what I read. Some storm.
They better be careful because all storms have one thing in common. They dissipate.
