The Daily Grind: What MMO has the worst crafting – or none at all?

Earlier this fall, after Raph Koster announced his new MMO and investor funding, he did a flurry of interviews. In the bowels of one on GIbiz, I saw this gem:

“When we did Ultima Online, other companies actually did marketing campaigns making fun of us for having crafting,” Koster recalls. “Today you do crafting in Tomb Raider and Uncharted. It’s everywhere. It’s taken a while for people to realize that the game playing audience out there really does enjoy that diversity of play.”

This kinda cracks me up, but he’s not wrong! I remember when crafting was considered a pretty odd thing in games too, and now they’re cramming it into shooters and action RPGs, not just sandboxes and virtual world MMOs. Then again, some MMOs still don’t have it – or the crafting is so terrible you gotta wonder why they bothered.
