I have tried to explain to my kids that they will not stop using math in real life, even if they aren’t in a STEM field, and the way I do this is by showing them something they can relate to: video games, specifically my Star Wars Galaxies spreadsheet and factories.
But of course, there are plenty of MMOs in which you’re not going to get far if you can’t at least operate a calculator or add on the fly. Anything with stats, gearscores, DPS meters, an auction house, or crafting requires math. It’s just as important as being able to type quickly or pilot a mouse or guess where an opponent is going next.
But maybe there’s an MMO out there my kids should be using as a counter-example when I’m lecturing them. Which MMO would you say requires the least math out of its players?
