Zenith’s final content update before maintenance mode will arrive at the end of August

It’s now the official final countdown for VR MMO Zenith, as developer Ramen VR has confirmed that Season 4: Golden Isles, aka the final update before the game will enter maintenance mode, is eyeing a launch for sometime in the end of August.

The update will bring on some new “community-minded features” that include the ability for players to trade items with one another, the return of the original fast flying gliding technique that was patched out just after launch, new island layouts in the Infinite Realms side-game, and a variety of bug fixes.

Ramen VR is otherwise waving goodbye to the playerbase in its latest newsletter statement. “We’re grateful for you, all the Zenitheans who have been here since the beginning, as well as anyone who chooses to pick up the game in the future,” it writes. “Your passion is what brings Zenith to life, and we hope you continue to make new friends and cherished memories in Zenith for the foreseeable future.” The playerbase’s disposition, however, appears to be less sunny, as folks on Reddit and Steam are making their displeasure known.

Zenith first started making some major waves when its 2019 Kickstarter drive saw it raise over $280K from players. It formally released in 2022 and ended up being an initial hit, but that ended up being an apparent flash in the pan as player populations dropped and Ramen VR started bleeding money. A final attempt at player retention came with February’s free-to-play Infinite Realms side game, but it ultimately ended up being too little, too late.
