Last week, Riot Games revealed one of its formerly secret projects, which ended up being a physical League of Legends trading card game. Code-named Project K, the League of Legends TCG will be a competitor to Magic the Gathering and function much the same way, with 1v1 and multiplayer duels around a table.
If you expected Riot’s community to welcome this announcement with both arms, then you are completely forgetting Legends of Runeterra, the digital card game that now feels abandoned and threatened with extinction. Some Runeterra players are calling for boycotts, while others are roasting the studio with every meme and sarcastic word at their disposal.
“Man, it would be really cool if they turned [Project K] into a digital card game. Maybe a PvE game mode to go with it,” said one player.
The studio did clarify that the physical TCG isn’t an exact copy of Runeterra, but it’s not divorced from it either: “Project K is not a physical version of the fantastic Legends of Runeterra, but it does inherit some of the rich champion design philosophies of LoR.”
