Forsaken World is getting a mobile edition

Could we be on the verge of an MMO mobile gaming revolution? Several mobile versions of Asian MMOs are in the making, including Aion and Final Fantasy XI, and now Forsaken World is throwing its plumed hat into the ring.

Perfect World Entertainment announced the new project with the debut of the Forsaken World Mobile website. The title is being built with the current Forsaken World engine and will be made available to both Android and iOS devices. It looks to have many of the same features as its fantasy PC sibling, including raids, PvP, mounts, and pets.

You can watch the Forsaken World Mobile teaser trailer after the break.

I’m mostly in hibernation about this stuff. I’m sure a fantastic mobile (whatever ‘mobile’ will mean at that point) MMORPG will happen, but I’ve seen none that I’d remotely call ‘fantastic’ yet.

well, if they go about it the same way they went about dawn of the immortals.. it’ll basically suck. but at least there’ll be dwarves i guess

Their other game, Dawn of the Immortals, was kind of a mess with a bunch of screen clutter. Although, I think I remember them using mobile touch controls, which is better than the bolted on joysticks that a lot of mobile games use.

When I think of a good mobile game.
I think of a game where’ it’s good the mandatory good graphics, gameplay, music, etc.

But perhaps the most crucial aspect is being able to play and have fun for a minute or so.

When I’m waiting on line, in the bathroom, in an elevator, in the bus, etc.

Greaterdivinity yup I am in the same boat I will take a look but have no expectations of them at all.  Which could be a good thing if I end up being pleasantly surprised but yeah I am not holding my breath either.

eLdritchMD I tend to agree that anything resembling an actual MMORPG can’t possibly flourish in mobile space simply because the socialization involved, even at the most casual levels of play, are impossible in the mobile context of “while I’m in line for coffee” gameplay.

I’ll give them all a try (at least Aion/Forsaken World, because I’m not sure what business model FFXI will be using), but considering all of my other forays into attempts at mobile MMO’s, my expectations are truly in the gutter.

nope.

A mobile gaming revolution didn’t happen 4 years ago and a mobile MMO revolution won’t happen now.

Mobile games have to be quite fundamentally different than PC/Console games because of how they are played. f.e. I play a bit of Clash of Clans whenever I’m rendering a video or some such.

I just don’t see how the mobile market with its rampant plagiarism is going to be an environment where people want to develop MMOs for a couple million in….

Oh boy. Every time I’ve tried this game the engine was obviously horribly optimized. Not sure how this will fare on mobile.
