Trove’s monster bash update is a graveyard smash

Trove seems to be pulling a major update out of its brain voxels on a monthly basis now. Coming hot on the heels of its Golden Thread and Fish ‘n’ Ships patches, today’s Monster Bash update brings yet another class and some welcome feature improvements.

The new class is the Boomeranger, which is totally a word that you shouldn’t try to verify with a dictionary. In addition to the expected boomerang, the class wields a sword, bow, bomb, and er, urn. It might be the perfect gift for the weapons nut in your family.

Players can also enjoy the new flasks system and stronger enemies in their adventures. Trion Worlds teased that the next update will contain the gear forging system. If you’re curious why Trove hasn’t officially launched yet, you’ll want to read Massively Overpowered’s interview with the team.

Hmm… looks like a good reason to login and play for a bit.

At first I was cranky about the bomb being useless until I discovered ti can blow a 6 block hole in walls and ceilings.  It doesn’t hurt floors, which I guess is good in most cases.  Hubby and I managed to accidentally blew a hole up to a bosses room and had a second boss fall on our heads.  Then scrambled to build in some stairs to get us to the chest.

I would be spending so much money on this game if Trion could get with Comcast and fix whichever Texas server is dropping packets like crazy, rubberbanding my Dracolyte all over the place. :( *sigh*

Boomeranger is pretty fun and feels refreshing compared to the only other bow class which is all about single target damage.  Then compared to the other sword classes he’s got a nice niche spot as well.
Flasks update is nice and adds more versatility and customization.  But it’s pretty annoying that it’s a massive Cubit dump and every emblem/flask type costs the same in Cubits that the original Flasks did. 6500 Cubits per thing means you’ll have to spend about a week and a half worth of the daily cubits in order to get a new flask type or emblem.
Monster update was just adding a bit more variety to what bosses do.
I do like the quality of life changes they made for crafting/trading with NPCs though.

Honestly though the Monster Bash is kind of a buzzkill because it was hyped up like crazy as being a big adventure update and whatnot.  When really all it did was change a system and add a few new abilities to bosses.  It didn’t really add anything to the adventuring content, which has been all about grinding Uber 5 Shadow Arenas since October 2014.   Yeah they’ve added a lot since then to other parts of the game, but idk, it’s annoying when the only thing to do at “end game” is jump through a bunch of hoops to fill up your Collections pages for Mastery levels, or endlessly grind Shadow Arenas for better gear so you can do better difficulties of Shadow Arenas so you can get better gear and collect rarer stuff.

Radfist If you click the source link, you see what the class looks like. It is the Link green tunic look, so yes.
