EverQuest II’s 12th expansion will be a legit expansion

Daybreak‘s Holly “Windstalker” Longdale has just announced that EverQuest II’s next major content will be a true expansion.

Our next expansion release is right around the corner! Yes, you heard me right – expansion! The team has been churning away and when we looked at the amount of content we created, we decided to call our next release an expansion rather than a campaign or the much-loved term, “campansion.”

Longdale promises that the expansion — EQII’s 12th to date — will include “a sprawling overland and loads of content with quests, advanced solo and heroic dungeons, and a healthy number of raids,” as well as an updated deity system, new tradeskill goodies, and level-agnostic renditions of all the new dungeons.

The full reveal is planned for October 1st.

Meh, when compared to expansions like Kunark, Sky, etc… these “one zone plus instanced mission doors expansions” still feel anemic.

i for one wish they would put the time and effort into developing a real expansion, with real content.

melissaheather Zariarn Yes, I aware the engine has reached it’s peak.  However, I’m always hoping that Daybreak will dumb some money into newer engine.  I don’t think it has to be cutting edge.  Just something newer.
They did experiment using Shader 3.0 some years back.  It looked pretty good but they abandoned the project due to bugs and such.

Nevertheless, there’s some good news.  If you run the game with SweetFx, it adds a lot of color and sharpness to the game.

agemyth Radfist I was trying to think if there’s anything in AoM they could slice off and monetize separately like they have with classes, races, etc. but AoM was so bare bones I can’t see them dividing it up.

Kaloth Honestly, I don’t trust anything they say anymore. But, DLCs also sounded like a terrible idea and it’s nice when people realize their mistakes. Now to see if this is truly an expansion or just a bloated DLC…

Greaterdivinity kofteburger  Incoming Werewolf race – $20, to get the version that actually turns into a Werewolf is $40 though.

agemyth Radfist  Its always a surprise with SoE / DBG, but the way it worked in the past with pre-orders for DoV was that you got access as soon as you pre-ordered.  Guessing they will do pre-orders in 2 weeks with the announcement on 1 October, since expansions tend to launch in November like clockwork.

Radfist agemyth I wasn’t sure if or when that was going to be implemented. I know they bundle their expansions (minus anything they can monetize separately), but I wasn’t sure if this would apply to the new one right away.

Rozyn Radfist Oleg Chebeneev Yeah I rarely bother questing in Everquest 2 (ironic no?).  I only really do it for heritage quests or signature quests (or quests with really great appearance items hahaha).
I skipped AoM thankfully.  Not sure how I feel about the new expansion yet, I feel they need a bit of a class / stat / aa revamp as everything has gotten out of control since TSO.

Greaterdivinity kofteburger I hope they have a collectors edition of the new race where the new animations of that race are locked behind a stupidly high paywall.
