Trove adds loot and progression to its new PvP mode

Trove is no longer a harmonious place for jaunty voxels. If you haven’t heard the news, Trion Worlds added PvP into the game with a recent patch, giving players the option to duke it out in custom-built arenas.

Trove’s PvP includes a few additional systems for the game, including a new path of progression through battle levels, special loot, and a capture-the-flag mode. There are also battle chests to be won (and given, if you stay logged in long enough) and banners to be worn for additional PvP stat boosts.

Make sure to listen to our podcast interview with Trove’s lead developer on all of the new PvP goodness and then head back here to check out the trailer for the battleverse!

Samizdat Sorenthaz Given how some classes are I’d think it’d quickly become frustrating in a CTF environment.  Like more frustrating than playing Warsong Gulch when your team is focusing on killing random enemies out in the field rather than chasing down the flag carrier.

Meaningful PVP in Trove?….

Sorenthaz There’s not really a lot of build variety, so it’s easier to think of it as a class-based shooter like Overwatch or TF2. Certainly not competitive, but I think it would be fun to check out.

I’m just scratching my head as to how PvP could be a semi-serious thing in Trove.  Capture the Flag I guess could be fun but the way combat is in that game + how classes work I don’t see how that could be remotely balanced and will likely lead to people just exploiting/abusing mechanics to get whatever collection items there are, only to drop it afterwards.
Also if those banners or w/e give any significant stats that seems really stupid considering it’ll create a barrier of entry for people stepping into it later on.  Assuming there’s a lasting factor to the mode to begin with that would entice people to keep up with it.
