Red rover, red rover, SMITE sends Grover on over to Paladins

One advantage to owning multiple properties under one roof is the ability to do crossovers at your pleasure. Hi-Rez is certainly taking advantage of this, as it’s sending SMITE’s Grover on a foreign exchange program to Paladins.

In Paladins’ closed beta 14 update, Grover the Wild joins the champion line-up for this fast-paced multiplayer brawler. Grover is a melee fighter who wields an axe to great effect. He also can shoot vines out to pull himself to distant objects and activate auras to help allies and harm foes.

The patch included a reworking of the match system and lobby UI, as well as many balance tweaks to the characters. You can see Grover in action and get an overview of the closed beta 14 update in dev videos after the jump.

As someone who plays Sylvanus on a regular basis, this makes me SO happy, even if I have little interest in Paladins thusfar. Grover <3

In case people are confused by who Grover is in SMITE, Grover is the treant that the Roman god Sylvanus runs around on:

Siphaed From the sounds of things, skins are on the horizon.  I.e. will be out within another month or so.  Though supposedly they were toying with the idea of being able to purchase skins via that Card Power or w/e resource it’s called that you can use to construct cards.

The game does suffer from serious design flaws right now.  For example, the Payload mode only lasts for the single team attacking or defending.  There is currently no reverse/flip between teams and is very short lived on many occasions.  the map has some very odd stretches between the checkpoints as well, so timers are hard missed very easily.

However there are still many fun, enjoyable games among its selections.  So far okay.  Just waiting to see how they further monetize the game beyond the current mount or cards system (the cards easily obtainable through gameplay, so that is kind of a stretch).

Honestly I found Paladins felt really similar to SMITE to the point I felt I should just play SMITE, the more complete non-beta game – now that they’re also adding in SMITE characters it just really really really makes me wonder what the point of developing this game is since it feels like it’s going to compete with SMITE.
